what i would do for the smell of spring... the soft touch of the sun reviving trees from their winter slumber, only to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. sounds wonderful. here i am, perpetually on the brink of my 21st birthday as days go by; similar to the feeling a sailor has when abroad a ship that has been at sea for years and finally seeing the first strip of land in the distance, but knowing he or she is still 500 miles away.
on another note, this past weekend was swell. black rock forest was covered with fallen trees and broken branches due to the winter snow storms in december. it was an interesting panoramic from the top of the mountain. the hike was quite strenuous but the smell, the noise, and the life of the forest was extraordinary. the frozen stream captured small waterfalls in their fullest- like frozen cascades of an edited picture. i got to walk on top of a frozen lake for the first time. we heard the ice crack, shift, and move. it was soooo cool. i felt like i was on a frozen plate tectonic. we drilled for ice cores. we failed. it turned to slush, but it was still fun... until i couldn't feel my body. it was incredibly cold out there. with the wind chill, it was 1 degree F.
valentine's day is coming up. i've never celebrated it before and i have to admit, i don't know how to celebrate it. hmm. are candles too cliche? but i like candles.
chinese new years is coming up as well. obviously i won't be celebrating that. this is my third year not celebrating it and i do miss the tradition.
