Ah! School is officially done with. This is somewhat liberating.
I went to see Tegan and Sara last night with my friend, Alex. I absolutely LOVE Tegan and Sara despite people's nasty comments. They were really cute onstage and I totally have a lesbian crush on Tegan. She has the crowd and she knows it. Poor Sara. But there are Sara fans that think she's underappreciated so their die-hard fanatic posters compensate for the lack of quantity. When Tegan was singing "Are You Ten Years Ago", she replaced the line "I'm taken, I am yours" with "I'm Tegan, I am yours". It was amazing and egotistical but she deserves it.
I haven't been this broke in a long time. Damn it! And my landlord, Alex (not the same Alex from above), is making it really hard for me to make a decision. Here are my options: (1) Move into my cousin's friend's apartment in Flushing. It's bigger and cleaner and according to my cousin, better for me. (2) Do some major craigslisting (yes, it is now a verb) and find an apartment in Manhattan. If I can live in this shoebox, I can live in another. (3) Stay here in Elmhurst, Queens. Alex is really really nice. I got home at around 2 last night and he was here fixing the leaking roof. It sounds bad, but I don't want to explain that. He said something about how I'm young and I like to stay out late. I told him I went to a rock concert. Then we started talking about how he speaks 4 different Indonesian dialects (there are 120 different dialects and they all sound different) and how he learned to read traditional and simplified Chinese. He said something about how he had to learn 1,500 words each week. He speaks Mandarin so well, he used to teach it to young adults in Indonesia. Then we started talking about other stuff and how he has to fix my door so he asked for my permission to come into my room the next day while I'm at work. Then he told me he'd buy a drawer so I can put my clothes in. He's noticed that I've been living out of a suitcase, which is what I did during Christmas break, it isn't so bad. He saw my MacBook and said he'd going to get wireless internet for the house soon. He's just awesome.
I might have a housemate soon. According to Alex, she's around my age but she goes to school upstate so he's not sure if she wants to move in. She wants the bigger room but he said he's saving that for his Indonesian family. I thought that was weird, because he offered the bigger room to me when he realized that the room I'm in right now is awfully small for someone like me. He said he has no idea when they will be getting their visas because Indonesia is a Muslim country and I'm sure the U.S. is not so happy to have incoming immigrants from there.
I ran into a friend... acquaintance? at Washington Square today. His name's Morgan, a friend of Chris's, and very attractive. He told me how they were doing a comedy show tonight and I was actually interested in going because I haven't hung out with him in such a long time. "So this is an invitation?" Then, to my disappointment, "Yeah but they scan your IDs at the door. So YOU CAN'T GET IN!" And he chuckled.
I'm not so happy about having to get monthly metrocards. I suppose I've never really had to pay for transportation back in California since I didn't have a car. Betty says she spends 80 something on gas each month, which is very little according to my mother because gas is almost up to 4 dollars. But I guess Betty doesn't really have anywhere to drive but to work and school.
Almost everyone has gone home for the summer. It's just me now. One girl, big city. It's weird to feel lonely in a city so big, so vibrant and full of people. I read somewhere that it's the abundance of people that alienates us. Very true. But I don't think there is any other place I'd rather be. Life is good and constantly being broke is somewhat exciting.
